Colorado Fox Terrier Rescue (CFTR) is a not-for-profit organization that re-homes Wire Fox Terriers (WFT). The terriers in rescue are of all ages and have very different stories. Some dogs are relinquished because of circumstances like divorce or the illness of an owner. Other dogs come from puppy mills and may never have seen the outside of the filthy and cramped kennel into which they were born. These dogs are eager to find new homes where they will be enjoyed and loved, and are extremely resilient. Fox Terriers are wonderful companions: sweet, funny, smart, mischievous, and high energy. Because of this energy - and their innate prey instinct - they do best in homes without toddlers or small children.
Before placing any dogs, CFTR fosters them in a temporary homes, so that each dog's health, personaltity and characteristics are assessed. All WFT's have full health checks, are spayed or neutered, and are microchipped. Many sizes, ages, and personalities of WFT's are available for rescue, and, with a little time, CFTR can find just the right companion for you.
If you are not ready to adopt a dog, please consider donating or sponsoring a dog in foster care. Somewhere, a Wire Fox Terrier is waiting for you....
Dedicated to Quincy and all dogs seeking their forever homes:
The Rescue Dog
He arrived with only the clothes on his back;
His toys, his tags, his people, all lost.
Even so, he remembers his manners:
He accepts a biscuit so gently.
When he is told to stay and guard the house,
He seems to understand but still
Doesn't want the door to close between us:
Perhaps just my nose could go with you?
Before my old Molly died she said
I want only to be with you.
After a while I put away
Her ashes with her things.
Today he and I will go to the park,
Then I will brush him and give him his supper.
I will read in my chair, he will lie at my feet:
Two old dogs who have lost everything.
